Real Job Check helps you decide whether a job posting is real or a scam. This page explains what we do with what you give us. The short version: we use it to run your check, we keep as little as possible, we never sell it, and you do not need an account.

The first sections are the plain-English summary. Further down are the formal details some readers need: how long we keep data, the legal bases we rely on, where data is processed, and your rights (including California and EU/UK rights).

Who we are

Real Job Check is operated by Aliso LLC, doing business as Real Job Check, at 2108 N St, Ste N, Sacramento, CA 95816. Aliso LLC is the controller of the personal data described here, and for users in the EU, the UK, and Switzerland, Aliso LLC acts as the data controller under the GDPR. What you give us

• The posting, link, or message you paste. You do not need an account to run a check.
• Your IP address. We use it to count free checks and to prevent abuse. An IP address can count as personal data in some places, so to be clear: we use it only for usage limits and security, never for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell it.
• Cookieless usage stats through Plausible (which pages get viewed, which features get used). No tracking cookies, no cross-site profiles.
• If you upgrade to Pro: your email address, so you can unlock Pro without a password, and your payment, which is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
• If you contact us: whatever you put in the form, such as your name, email, and message, so we can reply.

What we do with what you paste

We run it through our checks to produce your result. That includes sending the text to Anthropic, our analysis provider, to read it for scam patterns, and looking up public details such as how old the sender's domain is and whether the company's real careers page lists the same job. We send the domain or link to those public sources, not your personal information.

Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, the text you submit is not used to train Anthropic's models. Anthropic may retain content for a limited period for safety, security, and abuse monitoring, as described in its own policies.

We keep as little as possible. Please do not paste your Social Security number, bank details, passport, or other sensitive personal information. The tool does not need it to check a job. We do not use what you submit to train AI models. We may keep de-identified scam patterns, with names, emails, and other personal details removed, to improve our detection over time.

Legal bases (for EU, UK, and Swiss users)

If you are in the EU, the UK, or Switzerland, we process your personal data on these bases:

• Legitimate interests - to run the scam check you ask for, keep the service secure, and prevent abuse.
• Performance of a contract - if you buy Pro, to provide and bill the subscription.
• Consent - where we ask for it. You can withdraw consent at any time.
• Legal obligation - where we are required to keep records, for example tax and accounting.

How long we keep data

We keep personal data only as long as we need it:

• The text you paste: we do not intentionally keep it after your check runs, except briefly for transient processing, security, troubleshooting, backups, or legal compliance. While the check runs, Anthropic and Cloudflare process it as described above.
• Free-check counts (tied to your IP): these reset daily and are not kept as a long-term record.
• De-identified scam patterns: kept with personal details removed, for as long as they help detection.
• Pro email and billing records: kept while your subscription is active and for up to seven years afterward for billing, tax, and legal records. Stripe keeps payment records under its own terms.
• Contact messages: kept for up to twelve months after we resolve your request, unless we need them longer for a legal reason.
• Server and security logs: kept for up to thirty days for security and troubleshooting, unless an investigation requires longer.

Who else is involved (our processors)

• Cloudflare - hosts the website (Cloudflare Pages), runs the check service (Cloudflare Workers), and provides security and content delivery.
• Railway - runs the verification engine that scores the posting.
• Anthropic - reads the posting text to flag scam patterns. It does not train on your text, as noted above.
• Stripe - processes Pro payments. Stripe collects your card details directly under its own privacy policy. We do not store card numbers.
• Resend - delivers our email, such as the Pro unlock link and replies to your messages.
• Migadu - hosts the inbox that receives your message if you contact us.
• Plausible - cookieless, aggregate analytics, based in the EU.
• A web search provider - used on deeper checks to locate the company's official job posting. We send it the company, role, or domain, not your personal information.
• Public reference sources we query to verify a posting, such as domain registries and company career boards.

We may change providers from time to time. Any replacement is subject to appropriate contractual and security obligations. See our subprocessors page for the current list.

Where your data is processed

Real Job Check is based in the United States, and several of our providers, including Anthropic, Cloudflare, and Railway, process data in the United States. If you use the service from outside the US, your information may be transferred to and processed in the US and other countries. Where required, these transfers rely on the safeguards in our providers' data processing terms, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

Cookies

We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and our analytics (Plausible) are cookieless. If you unlock Pro, we set one functional cookie so you stay signed in. Free checks set no cookies.

Your privacy rights

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

• see the personal data we hold about you,
• correct it,
• delete it, and
• get a copy of it, in a portable form where that is technically feasible.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent.

To make a request, use our contact form. We may need to confirm your identity before we act, and we will respond within the time the law allows, generally within 30 to 45 days. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights. If you are in the EU, the UK, or Switzerland and think we have mishandled your data, you can complain to your local data protection authority.

California privacy (CCPA and CPRA)

If you are a California resident:

• Categories we collect: identifiers (such as your IP address and, for Pro, your email), internet activity (aggregate, cookieless usage), information you voluntarily submit, which may contain professional or employment-related information, and, for Pro, commercial and payment information handled by Stripe.
• We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
• Your rights: to know and access, to delete, to correct, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do neither). You may use an authorized agent.
• How to exercise them: use our contact form. We will not discriminate against you for making a request.

Children's privacy

Real Job Check is meant for adults looking for work. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, use our contact form and we will delete it.

How we protect your data

We use technical and organizational measures designed to protect the information you give us, including encryption in transit (HTTPS) and limited access to data. No method is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe. There is more on our security page.

What we do not do

• We do not sell your data.
• We do not require an account to check a job.
• We never ask you for your SSN, bank details, or payment to run a check.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product grows. When we make a material change, we will update the date at the top and, where it makes sense, note it on the site.
